Focus on the Masters presents An Evening with Cindy Pitou Burton on May 14 from 6 to 7:30 at The Comedy Club at The Harbor in Ventura. The event is part of an on-going interview series conducted by FOTM founder and executive director, Donna Granata.

Adventure drives the life and photography of Cindy Pitou Burton. She began her career as a photojournalist for the New York Times, soon expanding her contacts to CBS, NBC and PBS and magazines like Discover, Country America, and Ladies Home Journal. She honed her skills at The International Center for Photography and the School of Visual Arts in NYC. In Ojai, she began expanding her artistic techniques with study at Brooks Institute and Otis College. Polaroid transfers on watercolor paper and archival sepia prints of the western landscape led to other experiments. Digital cameras changed her way of working and Photoshop soon became her new darkroom. Pitou Burton’s intimate, close-up photos of flowers, sensuous and full of feeling, are often photographed on a light box, creating an x-ray effect. World travel has brought more than color into her work. Cindy relates: “By photographing you have a different experience. Even not speaking the same language, it’s a way of connecting”. Pitou Burton has exhibited her work in galleries in NYC and Los Angeles and is represented by Getty Images. She recently won a grant to provide photographic art for the Ojai Valley Hospital’s Emergency room. She is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers and the Ojai Studio Artists. Pitou Burton’s photography can be seen at THE/Main Gallery, 301 Matilija in Ojai from May 17 to June 1. She will also open her studio during the 30th Anniversary of the Ojai Studio Artist Tour, October 12 and 13, 2013.
